MEMBER PROFILE – WINTER 2010

Name: ROGER ELLUL (HUNTER)

Bike: 2009 FAT BOY

My love for motorcycles started at the early age of eight, growing up around the paddocks of Airport West in the 70s just about every kid on the block had a trail bike of some sort except me, my parents were dead against me owning a motor bike so they bought what they thought was the next best thing, a monocross "push bike" it had front shockers and a rear spring suspension, it even had a sissy bar just like a motorbike, but pedalling like hell whilst my mates were zooming past me on their YZs and CRs was not my idea of fun.

So after many trips cashing in aluminium cans and a few months of delivering papers on freezing cold mornings, I managed to save up $200 and bought my first motorbike a YZ80 (without my parents knowledge of course) and from that day on I was hooked.

Through the years I have owned over 22 motorcycles in many different makes and models, but I never really had a desire for a Harley. Then in 2003 my best mate came around to my house with his brand new Fatboy fitted with western bars and lots of chrome, I took it for a ride and instantly fell in love with the feel of it and I knew the next road bike I wanted would be a Big Black Bad Ass Harley Fat Boy with lots of Bling.

In 2005 I had a career change and bought a rundown stationery business in Tullamarine called Hotline Stationery. As any business owner would know, from that day on my hobbies and personal life came to a grinding halt. After four years of blood, sweat and tears, and then some more blood, the business was at a point where it was self-sustaining and it was time for it to pay me back the time and money I had invested in it. So in September 2008 I started shopping around for my first Harley and ended up purchasing a 2009 Fat Boy from Harley Heaven and as a result became a member of OzHOG. Buying that bike was a major life changing experience for me. It was such a personal achievement for me, as I had worked so hard establishing my business with little or no return. So riding down the highway on that hot summer's afternoon was one of the memorable experiences of my life.

My first club ride was the Father's Day run in 2009, Les, Hammer, Macca and all the OzHOG members made me feel overwhelmingly welcome and I knew this was where I belonged, and I was looking forward to a future of riding adventures with my new toy and this outstanding progressive club.

I can honestly say that at 40 years of age I have rediscovered riding motorcycles and look forward to each and every OzHOG event.

My other interests are spending time enjoying the great outdoors with my three sons:
Reece 14, James 12 and Nicholas 11.
