MEMBER PROFILE – SUMMER 2009

Name: HAMMR

Bikes: Ultra Classic and Dyna CVO.

Hi all, I have been asked to give you a quick profile on myself, so here goes.

My first Harley was a 1998 Heritage Softail, black of course. I was walking past H.H. when I noticed the girl in the window. It was love at first sight. While I was standing there admiring her shiny bits this guy came up to me and said "It will change your whole life." How true those words were!

After customising the girl to my liking, she was set for the meet and greet of the other Harleys in town and I hoped the boys approved! Then the hunger started, the chrome bits here, the chrome bits there, and it's customary of course that when a group of guys get together, they stand around, fold their arms, give themselves a scratch and check out each other's hardware! Even though they've probably seen it a thousand times.

I also purchased a 1999 1200 Sportster and it didn't stop there. Next came the 2003 Buell and the Sportster .. well... that's another story! It was time to look at something a little more comfortable, so in came the 2003 Winnebago..oops... Ultra Classic!

The Harley sure did change my life, that's where I met my lovely, at the 2003 Castlemaine Rally (now I had to make room for another car in the garage so out with the Buell) then got heavily involved with OzHog and the workings of the club. My first impressions of OzHog were how friendly everybody was, how much fun everyone was having, it was a great place to be and it's one that I knew I would stay with always.

It was time to upgrade so in came my latest addition, the Dyna CVO - the fang bike - and my Softail went to a new owner.

Positions I've held in the club are Head Road Captain, Assistant Director, a short stand-in stint as the Editor and now of course Director. My main goals for the club are for our members to just get out there and have fun and experience that same feeling that I had the first day I met the crew at Luna Park in St Kilda for the Diabetes Run. I still enjoy the look on a new member's face when they purchase their first bike and their excitement and eagerness as they become a Harley rider.

The biggest trip we did was to Sturgis which is something I encourage everyone to experience at least once. The locals are very friendly, the countryside is outstanding and there are so many contrasts not dissimilar to Australia. We absolutely loved it.

My three wishes? I won't mention them because they've already been granted (Michelle made me put that!) so I'm putting my hand up for three more but one thing I will say is that the friendships that I have made since that first day standing outside of HH and looking misty eyed through the window, folded arms and scratching myself of course, last with me to this day.

I was told to keep this short'n'sweet because I do have a tendency to ramble on!

Thanks, Hammr
