MEMBER PROFILE DECEMBER 2008 Name:
Maxine Agius - Bike: XL883L Sportster
My name is Maxine and I ride a XL883L, which is a 2007 Sportster with an 883 motor and it has been lowered. Her name is Emalita and she's dressed in Cobalt Blue, with the only mods being a pillion seat and sissy bar on the back so my 12 year old son "The Rabbit" can ride with me. She's fantastic and the best thing I've ever done except having Rabbit. I've been a member of the club for 2 & 1/2 years and I didn't know anything about Ozhog until I automatically become a member when I picked up Ema from Harley Heaven. It was a long and painful 9 week wait for her but well worth it. When Mark from HH rolled Emalita out to the street a few of the members were having coffee and introduced themselves, and invited me to the movies to see Wild Hogs. Well it was the first day with Ema so I turned that down and they also invited me to their annual Poker Run in a few weeks time. I'd been on a few poker runs with patch clubs and enjoyed them, so I consulted The Rabbit and we thought we'd go and have a look see. I must admit I was a bit scared rocking up on my bike not knowing anyone and as we finished registration (I didn't even know what chapter I belonged too!) I turned around and there was one of the guys I'd met at HH. He made me feel really welcome so I knew we would have a good day; when we got to the end of the run the other member I had met also saw me and he added to the familiarity. I decided that once a month it would be my day and that's how my love for the club began. Each month the Rabbit and I go on the monthly rides and meet with our friends, talking about everything and anything - mainly our bikes and the rides. In July I was asked if I would be the club secretary and I thought, why not, I'm at every meeting and every ride anyway. It's the best and I get so much out of being a member. There is no added bullshit that goes with most clubs, the members are friendly and nice to all comers and that's the way clubs should be. I've put about 14,000klm's on Ema by enjoying the freedom of the road that I wanted out of a bike, and the best thing is that I got exactly what I wanted. I'd always loved the peanut tank of the Harleys and she suits me to a tee. I ride about 10,000klms a year, and so far, I have ventured around South Gippsland and across from Mansfield via Mt Hotham to Omeo and home, with a few shorter and less exciting trips in between. Some places you must stay at are the Commercial Hotel in Heyfield (cheap as and great people), Allamar Motel Inn in MT Beauty (fantastic views and motorbike friendly), and the loveable Auto Lodge Motor Inn in Seymour also with great rates and motorbike friendly. I travel alone without the Rabbit on the long trips as it's my time, or normally with a great friend named Jolly (when he can get leave from his ball and chain).
As
you can imagine I keep Emalita clean and shiny, spending most Sunday
nights with a beer in one hand Well that's enough about me. Ride safe and stay upright.
